Unable to complete the Hearing Test on AirPods Pro 2

Same issue as others have reported and the product reviewer on Techradar.com reported, cannot complete the first test on the left ear because background noise too loud even though quietness test completed earlier in test stated an ok level.

Almost completed 95% of left ear on multiple occasions since April 2025 but always comes up with error message and cannot continue.

Apple supports response is my hearing profile is causing this??

Does anyone have a solution?

We can't really guess which solution will solve the issue, without pinpointing the cause of your difficulty

Eg: Using "Noise cancellation" may, or may not help:

See: Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes for AirPods - Apple Support

Generally, there's no way to prevent a (maybe un-noticed) airplane from flying overhead, or such, during the test

Seems some folks have resorted to doing the hearing test in a wardrobe to avoid background noise intruding.

Major city libraries, and some universities, sometimes have a soundproof room available.

(I understand that we can also use an audiogram from a hearing-professional to set up the hearing-aid feature)

Another cause can be that the ear-tip becomes slightly dislodged during the test, (instead of being "sealed"):

If you haven't seen it already:

Apple support provides tips in the article below:

Take a Hearing Test with AirPods Pro 2 - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Clean your AirPods Pro. Debris can affect the ability of your AirPods to provide a complete seal in your ears.

You should also clean your AirPods periodically so test results are as accurate as possible".

and:

(Point 5) "If you remove or adjust your AirPods (or if the environmental noise around you becomes loud), the Hearing Test may pause. The test resumes when you put the AirPods back in your ear or when the environmental noise is quiet again".

Thanks for the reply.

These are new AirPods purchased recently so no issue with debris as such.

The fit is ok when starting the hearing test and the background noise level is ok and I am in a very quiet area of the house so I am confident that there is no loud external noise during the test.

Have run the test many times now over several weeks with the same error message on the left pod and cannot continue. I thought it interesting that a professional Reviewer from Techradar.com experienced the same results with the test and with the left pod.

I have uploaded a professional Audiogram however I was trying to update AirPods with a more current test.

Apple Support say it is my hearing profile which is disappointing as I specifically purchased this product for the Hearing Aid feature. Regards

Thank you kindly for taking the time to reply, and to provide more detail.

Re: "Apple Support say it is my hearing profile which is disappointing as I specifically purchased this product for the Hearing Aid feature"

Seems the hearing aid test is for those over 18 with "mild to moderate" hearing loss.

ie: ... those with more severe hearing loss in one both ears may not qualify..

With proof of purchase, you may be able to return the airPods.

Else: AirPods also have many helpful hearing features that existed before the hearing-aid features were introduced.

Apple Support provides articles such as:

Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes for AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"You can switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Noise Control modes on your AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, depending on how much of your surroundings you want to hear.

You can also turn off Noise Control".

Customize headphone audio levels on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Conversation Boost focuses your AirPods Pro on the person who's talking in front of you. This makes it easier to hear when you're talking face-to-face".

Use Live Listen with AirPods or Beats - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"With Live Listen, your iPhone or iPad can act like a microphone that sends sound to your AirPods or Beats.

Live Listen can help you hear a conversation in a noisy area or even hear someone speaking across the room.

To use Live Listen with your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Powerbeats Pro, or Beats Fit Pro, your iPhone or iPad device needs iOS or iPadOS 14.3 or later.

You also need to connect your AirPods or Beats to your device."

All the best :-)

Thank you!

Re: " ... does the Audiogram I have uploaded adjust/Improve sound and music parameters to the AirPods there by improving overall sound qualities that I hear?"

If the Audiogram was only uploaded to the Health app that may just be the first step.

The way I understand it, the hearing test would need to be completed, and the Audiogram chosen for use while the hearing-aid feature was being set-up. Then the Audiogram's info would come into use, for improvement and fine-tuning of the sound quality. Perhaps the video below can help.

Use the Hearing Aid feature on your AirPods Pro 2 - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Adjust amplification level, balance and more in AirPods Pro settings

You can adjust settings such as amplification level (how much your AirPods amplify the sound around you), left-right balance, tone and Conversation Boost on iPhone, iPad or Mac (requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later). For quick access to settings, you can use Control Centre to adjust settings."
