How to show Control Centre in Assistive Touch with Assistive Assistant. Control Centre doesn’t show in Assistive Touch.

I’m using an iPhone 14 Plus with iOS 18.5 and setting the phone up for my 92 year old father, who has never had a smart phone and has poor eyesight. So I want it to be as simple as possible.

I have set up Assistive Assistant to give him very large simple icons.

I also set up Assistive Touch and added Control Centre and Home icons to give him

shortcuts as i think he may find it hard to swipe.

I want him to have Control Centre on the Assistive Touch menu so that he can pair his hearing aids easily and switch paired device between TV and hearing aids.

However the Home and Control Centre buttons do not show on the Assistive Touch menu within Assistive Assistant inside.

is there a way to add the hearing device or control centre to the Assistence touch menu mode.

Hi Alancito,

thanks for your reply.

I did customise the Assistive Touch already and added Control Centre.

But when I access the Assistive Touch menu within ‘Assistive Access’ the Control Centre does not show

and nor do some other options I added.

See screenshots of the Assistive Touch menu in normal mode and in Assistive Access

(NB sorry, I wrote ‘Assistive Assistant instead of ‘Assistive Access’ in the question).

I want my father to be able to control Bluetooth and pair his hearing aids from within Assistive Access so he can speak on the phone as he is very deaf.

if he can’t use Control Centre to access his hearing aid and pair it then he can’t use Assistive Access at all because he would have to keep exiting that to connect his hearing aids, and that will not be possible to do quickly if the phone rings.

(I have been told that the hearing aids do lose pairing if people go away from the phone in the house - which is of course going to happen. So re-pairing needs to be easy).

Plus we want him to be able to use the ‘Live Listen’ feature for hearing devices to stream live face to face conversations to his hearing aid using the phone as a microphone. Again, he needs Control Centre to get to the Hearing Device settings and turn Live Listen on.

Having explored this topic of Bluetooth working in Assistive Access there are loads of Reddit complaints that Bluetooth does not work and people rightly say it is ridiculous not to include Bluetooth options in Assistive Access.

Come on Apple, people have been complaining for 3 years about this - that you need to be able to use and pair Bluetooth in Assistive Access???

A lot of people using Assistive Access have dementia or are old (and as a result low skilled on devices so need the simple interface).

A high proportion of these people will have hearing aids and need them to stream the phonecall in Assistive Access.

So what is the point of having Calls in Assistive Access if you can’t use Bluetooth to pair to a hearing aid or ear phones?

Any tips on connecting Bluetooth in AA please?!

It saves a couple of taps by opening that Settings pane via this URL copied into an 'Open URLs' action:

prefs:root=ACCESSIBILITY&path=HEARING_AID_TITLE

As you're "struggling with shortcuts", search the internet for tutorials, YouTube videos, etc. There's a free sample video HERE. And a free sample of an e-book is HERE. ...And you can even consult this free, private AI:

This Open URL option is very useful. Thank you.

However I can’t work out how to create different URLs for different iOS settings!

is there a way of me finding out the spec for how to create the path for any particular setting or app?

or is there a master list of URLs I can check?

eg the URL for Bluetooth setting

and for

Hearing Control Center

thanks SO much!

I have given up on Assistive Access and I’m just setting up a very simple Home Screen

for my dad.

Yes, but they are only unofficial lists of URLs that are not kept up-to-date — several URLs for Bluetooth are in these two lists:

That's a good approach — and with large shortcut widgets you can set up a lot of useful, easily tapable coloured icons. For example, create a custom shortcut called "Internet Doesn't Work!" — which turns off Wi-Fi, waits a couple of seconds and turns on Wi-Fi again.
