How do I edit the audio in a keynote slide show recording

I’ve created a series of slides, and recorded it as a recorded slide show with voice over, but I can’t edit the audio track at all. The instructions in the help file don’t seem to apply.

this is the very latest version, on an m2 Mac mini.

Mac mini, macOS 15.5

There is no built-in editor for the VoiceOver/soundtrack. The easiest option is to re-record the presentation.

If you're really brave, you can extract the audio file from your presentation, edit it in some external application, then save it back, but it's not a supported option (meaning if you mess it up, it's on you, so keep a backup).

If you want to take that path:

• Save (a copy of) your .key file in an empty folder.

• .key files are really ZIP-compressed folders, so rename your presentation to have a .zip filename extension instead of the existing .key extension (e.g. Presentation.key -> Presentation.zip)

• Now you can double-click the <presentation>.zip file and it will extract the contents into a folder called whatever your .zip file was called (minus the .zip extension).

One of the folders inside this folder is called 'Data', and inside this folder will be a .mov file. This is your audio soundtrack. You can open this with any audio editor. Just make sure the audio file remains the same duration, otherwise it may fall out of sync with the presentation.

• Once you've made your changes, select the Presentation folder in the Finder and Ctrl-Click on it and choose the 'Compress...' option. This will compress the folder into a .zip archive.

• Finally, rename the .zip file to have a .key extension. Now it can be re-opened in Keynote with your changes.

Previous versions of Keynote worked properly: you had to record over the entire rest of the presentation from the point at which there was something needing to be recorded over, but you could do this from multiple starting points until you finally got the whole presentation right. But not with Keynote 14.4. I have tried 3 or 4 different budget microphones. Each of these microphones works on other computers, including my 2013 Mac mini, and also on my 2023 Mac mini with other apps like Voice Memos, Messenger and Facetime. But not with Keynote 14.4. If I re-record a portion, the playback stops at the end of the originally recorded part. If I export to movie, the audio stops at the end of the originally recorded part. If I try to move the pointer in the audio bar at the bottom in "record slideshow" mode into the rerecorded part, the pointer pops to the end of the originally recorded part. The rerecorded part can not be accessed in Keynote 14.4. But it can be accessed in Keynote 11, on my 2013 mac, once the poor ancient Mac manages to load it. My current workaround, a poor workaround, is to edit Keynote presentations created on my 2024 mac mini on my ancient mac using Keynote 11, where I can successfully record over the parts of the audio that need replacing, then go back to my 2023 mac for final editing and processing into a movie for my students. This introduces detectable differences in sound quality for edited portions, and the potential for missing fonts and other features. I've been calling various Keynote techs at Apple help. One tech was positively snippy that I should expect an Apple tech to be able to figure out how to get a new mac to record Keynote properly. Others have tried to be helpful. One is still working on it.

Is it a Keynote 14 bug? I sure hope they fix it. Apple, Help!!!!!
